CRIMEA: PASSPORTS HIJACKED

TO:FIELD
FROM: AOR
SUBJ:  IMPOSTERS ARE SEIZING CITIZENS PASSPORTS

THIS IN FROM THE CRIMEAN NEWS AGENCY:

(QHA) - Unknown people who call themselves “members of election commission” are seizing passports of Crimean citizens, mainly Crimean Tatars and don’t give them back.

Crimean resident, who wished to remain anonymous, has said this to QHA.

Impostors come to Crimean houses, ask people to show their passports, arguing that the passports are needed to prepare lists of voters for all-Crimean referendum, that to be conducted on March 16.

Simferopol city administration confirmed the information, noting they have already received phone calls from anxious Crimean citizens.

According to Simferopol city administration press-center, this is nothing but provocation.

Simferopol city administration press-office called on Crimeans not to give in the provocations, noting no one has the right to require passports.

SUBJ: SPECNAZ, COMBINED AIRBORNE ACTIVITY REPORTED

BASE ATTACKED BY ARMED COMPONENT,  AFFILIATION UNK, NY TIMES REP:

"...people familiar with the raid said that 200 to 250 Russian soldiers arrived outside the naval base’s walls early Monday morning and quickly scaled the fences and dropped inside.

The soldiers, variously described as members of Russian special forces or perhaps a paratrooper unit, rushed the base’s headquarters and seized the checkpoint at its entrance. They carried machine guns, automatic rifles, grenade launchers and sniper rifles, including new sniper rifles often carried by elite Russian units.

The Ukrainian naval contingent, perhaps 40 or 50 sailors and officers, belonged to a technical service that manages naval missiles and had only light weapons — mostly pistols and automatic rifles."

FURTHER DETAILS FROM THE CRIMEAN NEWS AGENCY:

About 200 Russian soldiers arrived on 14 trucks at the detached missile unit in Chornomorske at night at about 01.30,  head of the Ministry of Defense's media office Vladislav Seleznyov reported.

“Treating to storm the unit and use the weapons, Russian militants entered the territory of the unit. They disarmed all the soldiers and demanded to hand over all the Ukrainian weapons, putting it to the warehouse. Now, there are two Ukrainian officers who guard the warehouse. The rest of the stuff was demanded to leave the military camp.”- Seleznyov said.

BAKHCHYSARAY, Ukraine — Lt. Col. Sergei Sadovnik, a tall Ukrainian army officer, emerged nervously Monday afternoon from the front gate of a military transport base in this Crimean village, surrounded by pro-Russian militiamen. Just inside the gate, several dozen armed men could be seen, some with masks and Kalashnikov rifles.
Sadovnik, the base commander, tried to be casual and humorous about the situation, but no one else was laughing. He carried no weapon, and his uniform bore no insignia. His face looked slightly bruised. Asked by journalists about rumors that he had been kidnapped, he shook his head."

“No, these men came and invited me to be their guest for a day and a half,” he said with a weak smile. “I was treated well, given food and water.” The takeover, he said obliquely, was “like you see in the movies.” He then acknowledged, “I have no link to my superiors now, not even by phone,” just before several militiamen escorted him back inside the base.
