Fight against IS

Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen praised the progress of Peshmerga training in Erbil, Northern Iraq while in camp Bnaslawa on 27 October. During her third trip to Erbil, Von der Leyen visited the Kurdistan Training Coordination Centre (KTCC), where German soldiers train Peshmerga fighters.
Currently, there are about 100 German soldiers in action in Northern Iraq. In a short amount of time they are effectively training the fighters, following which the Peshmerga will return to the frontline of the fight against IS. But not only Peshmerga received training. Recently, a Yazidi Battalion completed a four-week instruction at the KTCC.
Besides the training of the Peshmerga, the German Government supports Iraq with supplies. The minister said there had been 1,800 tons of equipment delivered and that good training and good equipment would secure the survival in the fight against IS.
